Tom Cruise and George Clooney both have discussed aging onscreen in their own ways. However, in a recent interview, Cruise says that he sees things quite differently at 64.

Tom Cruise responds to idea of being too old to remain a leading man at 64

Tom Cruise recently appeared near-shirtless on GQ’s October cover. Cruise posed for a striking black-and-white cover portrait. His shirt was open, showing his defined physique. During the interview, Cruise was asked about aging.

The question referenced George Clooney’s comments about acting later. Clooney previously discussed changing his approach to roles. He recalled something attributed to Cary Grant. Grant reportedly said he couldn’t kiss girls anymore.

Instead, he wanted to explore different roles onscreen. Cruise, however, appears to view things differently. He explained that he sees life through stories. “I see life in a different way,” Cruise said. “I see it in a way of stories. I don’t see life in that way.”

He also explained his outlook on getting older. “I see life—yeah. It’s something where I see possibilities. I see future. Yeah. I don’t look at life like that. There’s so many things that I enjoy and like doing and I’m interested in. So that’s how I see life.”

Last year, Clooney discussed his decision with the Daily Mail. He explained that he follows Paul Newman’s approach instead. Clooney said he wanted to stop kissing women onscreen. “I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did,” Clooney said. “Okay, well, I’m not kissing a girl anymore.”

Clooney’s comments reflected his changing approach to acting. Cruise, meanwhile, appears to have another perspective. Cruise stars in the upcoming black comedy Digger. The movie is scheduled to release on October 2, 2026.

Cruise plays wealthy oil tycoon Digger Rockwell. At 64, Cruise still embraces physically demanding roles. His latest comments suggest age isn’t limiting him yet.
