Netflix is basically the streaming go-to for high-concept thrillers. Occasionally, the draw is even richer. Netflix thriller Woman of the Hour boasts the star power of Anna Kendrick alongside a can’t-miss premise. Rebel Ridge has a stunning synopsis bolstered by Jeremy Saulnier’s genre maestro credentials. Recently, another Netflix thriller has tapped into that rare vein, hooking audiences with both premise and talent. It’s not an easy watch, but it’s as thrilling and intense as anything else you’ll see this year. Most praise for Night Always Comes is courtesy of Vanessa Kirby’s truly stunning performance. The Oscar-nominee taps into a convincingly raw and real portrayal of desperation, with some viewers describing her as “magnetic.” Critical reviews were strong, too, with Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle writing, “The movie devises lots of fraught, intense moments, but what’s even more impressive about the screenplay is the way it seems to understand the psychology of the people that Lynette must deal with once she descends into the lower depths.” Beyond Kirby, the supporting cast features the likes of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Julia Fox, and Eli Roth. Positively stacked to the brim with talent.
