Why 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 6 Was the Best

Why 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 6 Was the Best

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Season 6 is almost complete. Season 6 had a good run that featured six couples with a variety of backstories. Shekinah Garner and Sarper Guven ended the season on a high, after getting engaged in Turkey. The Tell All revealed that Sarper is currently in the US with Shekinah. On the other hand, Statler Riley and Dempsey Wilkinson’s relationship unfortunately didn’t work out. Neither woman was invited to the Tell All.

James Solis and Meitalia Tantri Solis were one of four new couples this season. The two attempted to move to Meitalia’s home country of Indonesia but later decided a life in the US made more sense. Joanne DiGesu intended to move to Ireland to be with her husband Sean, although this later fell through when her children expressed doubts about the plan. On the other hand, Josh moved to China, where he joined his wife, Lily. Finally, Corona Blakey returned home to Philadelphia following her failed efforts to move to Iceland for Ingi Hilmar.

The Other Way Season 6 was much more interesting to watch than previous seasons of the spin-off. Here’s why it’s our favorite season so far!

The Other Way Season 6 featured a diverse and enjoyable cast

In previous seasons of The Other Way, some storylines were repetitive or overall, just not enjoyable. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case with Season 6. While not all the relationships worked out this season, every couple brought something to the table.

Shekinah and Sarper were an enjoyable watch all season. Though their relationship was overshadowed by jealousy at times, the two have a unique dynamic and are without a doubt in love. On the other hand, while Statler and Dempsey might not have worked out, it was fascinating to see their van journey through Europe. James and Meitalia were another fun watch, as it was interesting to learn more about the rich culture of Indonesia through their segments.

Joanne and Sean’s segments were equally entertaining, as they didn’t have as much drama as the other couples. It was also intriguing to see more of Ireland, which hasn’t been shown on The Other Way before. By the same token, it was cool to see the different sides of Iceland through Corona and Ingi’s story. Finally, Josh and Lily’s segments explored Chinese culture, which also hasn’t had much exposure in the franchise. New countries are key for successful seasons of The Other Way!

The Americans on Season 6 made genuine efforts to move abroad

On previous seasons of The Other Way, the Americans haven’t always been entirely dedicated to moving abroad. Given the premise of the spin-off, that has been frustrating to watch. However, during Season 6, all six Americans truly intended to make living abroad work. While most of them weren’t able to do so long-term, they did put their best foot forward.

Shekinah lived in Turkey with Sarper for months, which shows she tried her best to do so. Similarly, Statler sold her car and many belongings to relocate to Europe permanently. James and Josh quit their jobs and did their best to adjust to life in Indonesia and China respectively. Corona also intended to live in Iceland permanently and considered giving up midwifery school. Finally, Joanne fully planned on moving to Ireland until her sons told her they were worried about it.

The Other Way Season 6 highlighted the real struggles of moving abroad

Another area where Season 6 excelled was showing genuine struggles of moving abroad. During previous seasons of The Other Way, some segments have felt more like vacations instead of moving abroad. Season 6, however, did a great job showing the realities the six Americans faced.

Shekinah had a hard time not speaking the language Turkish in Turkey, which is an obstacle with moving to non-English speaking countries. Similarly, Corona was surprised to learn that midwifery school in Iceland would only be taught in Icelandic. Josh and James both struggled with not working, due to language barriers and visa issues. Statler was surprised to learn about the currency conversions from dollars to euros, which is also a very real problem.
