Bronwyn Newport is the newest addition to the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. But the 39-year-old is getting off to a rough start. The newest snowflake came in hot as the friend of Lisa Barlow. But one thing is certain: she has her own opinions and isn’t afraid to voice them. Frankly, Bronwyn is as colorful as her wardrobe, but I’m not so sure I like it. I know we shouldn’t always judge a book by its cover, but Bronwyn is giving fans a lot of opportunities not to like her. But for all we know, she could come out smelling like roses by the season finale.
My first impressions of Bronwyn Newport on RHOSLC
I don’t know what it is with Mormons and short bob haircuts, but currently, I am not a fan. (I’m looking at you, Whitney Leavitt.) I wanted to really like the newbie, but Bronwyn came across as extremely snobby from the start. While I love a Real Housewives star who can think on their feet and clap back, some of her off-the-cuff remarks have just been petty. But I can’t deny that she is unapologetically herself, especially in her fashion. And I can really appreciate someone who owns who they are.
I’d argue that Bronwyn is just the right amount of delusional that the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City needs. But I still don’t know if she will be my cup of tea. One of my favorite flaws to see in a housewife is delusion. It’s annoying to be around in person but relatively harmless and makes for great TV, especially when it comes to Bronwyn.
Bronwyn Newport isn’t a one-season housewife
I’ll be honest. I didn’t like how she mocked her husband about his gout. I actually felt bad for him. The man is 26 years her senior; of course, there are going to be some ailments. It bothered me that she made his plight with the king’s disease so trivial because it’s not just about drinking too much wine. It’s about his genetics, too. If I were Bronwyn’s husband, I would have felt ashamed that my spouse mocked me, all in the name of reality TV. But she has hooked viewers. The woman is an enigma as she gets a pass for spending money frivolously in a way that so many other influencers do not.
However, she must have some standing monetarily if Lisa is clinging on to her. Bronwyn isn’t a one-trick pony. She’s worked hard for her success and has led quite a life. Fans quickly learned she was kicked out of BYU for becoming pregnant at 19. For the most part, she is an open book regarding her love of fashion, marrying her older and wealthier husband, and passion for charity work. So, as a Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star, Bronwyn could add a lot to the series. I’m just not convinced we even cracked the tip of the iceberg with her.
Bronwyn Newport is on the women’s radars
I’d be amiss if I didn’t also point out that Bronwyn is on the cast’s radar. Not only are fans on the fence about B, but so are the other housewives. It is obvious that Bronwyn is a hard nut to crack for the ladies, too, as they seem almost to be hazing her in the first few episodes. However, Bronwyn is not having it and is already throwing Lisa under the bus to make a point. Even though Heather Gay noted that Bronwyn needed to get her “words in order,” the newbie saw the situation differently. She made sure to point out that both Lisa and Heather had also been making shady remarks while in the car.
Heather has been the most outspoken of the newcomer, noting, “When Whitney said she loved her and was so supportive of her, I was like, ‘Either I’m reading it wrong or she’s playing both sides.‘” But as fans know, a lot can change in one season, so viewers will have to keep tuning in to see if Bronwyn is going to redeem herself and prove she is the one stirring the pot.
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is streaming on Peacock.
