Zack Snyder was asked to choose his best film of all time in a recent podcast. This conversation came up after he and the host briefly discussed AI in the film business and the future of cinema. Ultimately, he chose a film whose director’s cut was pushed by fans to be brought to the big screen.

In a conversation with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, the host brought up the topic of some directors having amazing filmographies, including Snyder. So, he played a small segment with him, where he put Snyder’s DC movies in pairs for him to choose one in each round. The last-standing movie is considered his best movie.
In the first round, Horowitz gave him a choice between Dawn of the Dead and 300. Snyder chose 300. After this, he was asked to pick between Man of Steel and Batman Vs. Superman. He replied, “Those two. You really want to do that? I know it’s strong. Director’s cut, of course, obviously. Yeah. Yeah. BBS.”
The other round’s pair was Justice League vs. Watchmen. The director picked Justice League, which was in the second-last round put against Rebel Moon. Justice League received the title of the greatest film of Snyder, after being put against Batman Vs. Superman.
“Watchmen could have snuck in there, but it’s… I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know where,” Snyder said before their conversation ended. Before this round, the host also asked him the Sucker Punch vs Rebel Moon question, but his choice was the latter. When given the option between BBS and 300, he chose the former.
Justice League was released in 2017 but it received its much-awaited director’s cut in 2021. The superhero movie centered on Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne, who, after Clark Kent’s death, assembles a team of metahumans. They battle against Steppenwolf and his army, sent by Darkseid, to conquer humanity.
