Grey’s Anatomy star Harry Shum Jr. put on his dancing shoes for Season 35 of Dancing With The Stars. Like several other celebrities competing this year, he has prior dance experience. He spent years showing off his dance moves on Glee, as well as starring in the Step Up movie franchise. He earned the top score on the Season 35 premiere. DWTS Judge Reacts To Boos After Criticizing Frontrunner Harry Shum Jr.
Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson received a 21 out of 30 for their Cha Cha on the DWTS premiere. They performed a Viennese Waltz to “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls during Week 2’s “Viral Hits Night.”
Derek Hough called the duo’s dance “beautiful.” Bruno Tonioli said that it “wasn’t bad.” Carrie Ann Inaba disagreed. She prefaced her criticism by telling Harry Shum Jr. that he’s an “amazing performer.” However, she felt something was missing from the routine.
“What’s missing — or what’s happening — is it’s out of balance, because the parts when you let go, you let so far go and you’re so amazing, and then when you’re back and hold, you’re a little timid, and you seem uncertain,” she said.
Her comments received boos from the live studio audience. But Carrie Ann Inaba is used to the boos by now. “You can boo me, that’s okay. You can boo as long as you vote!” she told the crowd.
Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson’s Viennese Waltz earned an 18 out of 30. That was enough to get them through until next week. But three other contestants landed in the bottom.
Who Went Home In Week 2?
Harry Shum Jr.’s 18 out of 30 wasn’t bad. Three celebrities shared the top spot after scoring 21 out of 30. Amber Glenn & Pasha Pashkov, Ezra Frech & Daniella Karagach, and Jenna Dewan & Val Chmerkovskiy topped the leaderboard for Week 2. Despite two celebrities going home during the premiere week, DWTS kicked off another celebrity this week.
Guillermo Rodriguez & Witney Carson and Giada De Laurentiis & Alan Bersten all earned 12 out of 30, landing them in the bottom. Bachelorette alum Tyler Cameron & Sharna Burgess joined them in the bottom three with a score of 16 out of 30.
Ultimately, celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis was eliminated, leaving 13 contestants. The live DWTS audience may have booed Carrie Ann Inaba, but Harry Shum Jr. listened intently to her advice. Tune in next week to see if he applies it to his next performance.
