The Rookie is in the middle of Season 7. However, many fans remain confused about last season’s big cliffhanger finale. Some fans have taken to social media to complain about the cliffhanger, specifically that it has nothing to do with what is happening this season on the show.
Here is what fans are saying about the sixth season finale and why it makes no sense, considering what is happening on the show right now.
What Happened In The Rookie Season 6 Finale?
The Rookie ended its Season 6 with a cliffhanger. The season only had ten episodes and saw Monica’s (Bridget Regan) downfall. She spent much of her time on the show as an attorney with a sharp wit and a never-quit attitude. While she represented some questionable clients, she was mostly just a brilliant defense attorney.
However, by the end of Season 6, Monica is the big bad of the series. She is the villain who works behind the other villains. The finale also saw Oscar (Matthew Glave) escape prison along with Bailey’s abusive husband Jason (Steve Kazee). With Nolan and Bailey wanting to adopt a child, this was sure to bring a lot of drama and danger to their lives.
At the time, series creator Alexi Hawley said, “Jason just seemed like the most delicious idea, to bring him back out into the world. And also, yes, the worst possible moment for Bailey — no one should have that sort of danger looming over them when they’re trying to basically convince people that they shouldn’t be allowed to bring a child home” (via The Wrap).
In Season 7, the series hasn’t done anything to follow up on that cliffhanger, and fans are not happy about it.
What Fans Say About Season 6 Finale Being Dropped
Fans took to social media to complain about The Rookie dropping most of the Season 6 cliffhanger’s worries. One fan even mentioned that it almost seemed like it was a new show in Season 7. They said the previous season’s events no longer mattered.
Here is a sample of what fans complained about concerning the cliffhanger meaning nothing this season:
- “What was the point of that cliffhanger of an ending to S6? I get that they ended the Jason lore, but this new season feels like a brand new season. Are they ever going to discuss Oscar and Monica?”
- Another person said it was still early, writing, “We’re still early into the season, most of that time was spent wrapping up the Jason side of the story. See where they’re at after the mid-season premier.”
- Another predicted the ending, saying, “I honestly feel like Oscar is going to end up turning himself in because he feels like a nobody or not needed in the real world. I feel like they rushed the most recent episode and the ending of season 6.”
