The Mamma Mia! revival became one of the top five earners on Broadway last week, with the ABBA musical selling out and grossing $1,573,128 for seven previews at the Winter Garden.
That figure puts Mamma at fourth place on the Top 5 roster, behind Wicked, $2,244,288; The Lion King, $2,230,569 and Hamilton, $1,704,651 (which celebrated its 10th anniversary with some special performances), and just above Aladdin, $1,459,275.
Sell-outs for the week were Hadestown, Hamilton, John Proctor Is The Villain, Just in Time, Mamma Mia!, Maybe Happy Ending, Oh, Mary!, The Outsiders and Wicked. At 90% of capacity or more were & Juliet, Aladdin, Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, MJ, Moulin Rouge!, Operation Mincemeat, Purpose, The Book of Mormon and The Lion King.
Newcomer Jeff Ross: Take A Banana For The Ride, the comedian’s one-man biographical show, was still finding its legs at the Nederlander. Attendance was at just 55% of capacity, with a gross for the 7 previews at $172,648. The number puts Banana among the lowest grossers of the week, alongside Jean Smart’s Call Me Izzy, 58% and $391,432.
In all, 14 of Broadway’s 29 shows saw drops in box office for the week ending August 10.
Biggest gain was taken by Gypsy starring Audra McDonald, with the revival posting a $249,027 bump over the previous week to $1,191,140. With the show nearing its August 17 closing date, attendance at the Majestic was up to 84% of capacity.
In all, Broadway’s 29 productions grossed a total $31,003,860 last week, up about 3% over the previous week and 2% over last season at this time. Total attendance of 251,610 was up 6% over the previous week and 5% year-to-year.
Season to date, Broadway, in the 11th week of the 2025-26 season, has grossed $402,265,478, up about 9% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 3,119,428 up 7%.
