Megyn Kelly Publicly Supports Alex Murdaugh’s Fight for New Trial After Bombshell Supreme Court Ruling

Megyn Kelly may think Alex Murdaugh is guilty, but she still believes he deserves a new trial. The conservative commentator weighed in after the South Carolina Supreme Court made the shocking decision to overturn a previous ruling and reopen the door for Murdaugh to challenge his murder conviction.

Naturally, the ruling instantly reignited debate around one of the country’s most infamous true crime cases.

Megyn Kelly backs Alex Murdaugh’s re-trial despite her personal dislike

During Wednesday’s episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Kelly said she agreed with the Supreme Court’s decision, even though she personally believes Murdaugh killed his wife, Maggie and son Paul.

“Every defendant in this country is entitled to a fair trial,” Kelly said. She made it clear her opinion of Murdaugh hasn’t changed. “In my case, I believe he did this,” she admitted. “But he’s entitled to a new trial.”

The issue, according to Kelly, comes down to former Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca “Becky” Hill. The South Carolina Supreme Court heavily criticized Hill while discussing allegations she improperly influenced jurors during the original trial.

The court reportedly described the conduct as “disgraceful” and “unprecedented.” Kelly didn’t exactly soften her opinion on Hill either. “I firmly believe that Becky Hill is a pathological liar,” she said during the podcast.

Hill previously faced accusations of warning jurors not to be “fooled” by Murdaugh’s emotional testimony during the trial. Jurors later disputed parts of Hill’s account, and the former clerk eventually pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and perjury charges tied to leaking sealed court materials.

Murdaugh was convicted in 2023 for the murders of Maggie and Paul after prosecutors argued he killed them near the family’s South Carolina hunting estate in 2021. He has continued insisting he’s innocent ever since.

Meanwhile, the possibility of a retrial is reportedly creating fresh emotional strain for the Murdaugh family. According to the Daily Mail, Murdaugh’s surviving son Buster is unhappy about revisiting the case publicly all over again.

Still, Kelly argued the legal system cannot ignore possible jury interference simply because the defendant is unpopular.
