It’s official: Interview with the Vampire has begun production on its third season. The news was confirmed on June 20, 2025, by AMC’s official Immortal Universe social media accounts, along with a first look at the Season 3 clapperboard.
Production Has Begun in Toronto
Filming is currently underway in Toronto, Ontario, and is expected to continue through October 2025. While Toronto appears to be the main filming location this season, it’s unclear if other cities will make an appearance, especially considering Season 2 included shoots in Prague, Paris, and New Orleans.
Showrunner Rolin Jones has remained characteristically secretive, but fans know by now: when Interview with the Vampire is quiet, it’s usually cooking up something wild.
Who’s Back — and Who’s New
In an AMC press release from June 2024, Season 3 was teased like this:
“Resentful of the perfunctory portrayal in the trashy bestseller Interview with the Vampire, the Vampire Lestat sets his story straight in a way only the Vampire Lestat can — by starting a band and going on tour. Gabrielle. Nicholas. Magnus. Marius. Those Who Must Be Kept. They join Louis, Armand, Molloy, Sam, Raglan, Fareed and others we can’t tell you about yet on a sexy pilgrimage across space, time, and trauma. No Auto-Tuning. No Trigger Warnings. All Feels Amplified.”
Based on that alone, we know several cast members will return:
- Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt
- Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac
- Assad Zaman as Armand
- Eric Bogosian as Daniel Molloy
- Justin Kirk as Raglan James
- Christopher Geary as Sam Barclay
- Joseph Potter as Nicolas de Lenfent
- Gopal Divan as Dr. Fareed Bhansali
Still unknown are the actors portraying Gabrielle de Lioncourt, Marius de Romanus, Magnus, and (perhaps most anticipated of all) Those Who Must Be Kept.
What to Expect From Season 3
This season marks a bold new chapter for the show. While Seasons 1 and 2 centered Louis — his memories, regrets, and unraveling truths — Season 3 will shift the spotlight fully onto Lestat…literally.
Fans of Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles know the dramatic tonal shift that occurred between Interview with the Vampire (1976) and The Vampire Lestat (1985). The show appears to be following suit, and embracing that change with open arms.
In an interview with IndieWire, showrunner Rolin Jones put it bluntly:
“I won’t be dishonest. It’s aggressively different. It’s Lestat’s show. It’s not two old guys sitting in a room trying to figure out stuff. It is a near-Messiah having a nervous breakdown. It’s going to feel really fucking impulsive and erratic and wild.”
For the unfamiliar: The Vampire Lestat is told in Lestat’s voice as a direct response to Louis’ story in Interview with the Vampire. He recounts his life from a tragic childhood in 18th-century France, to his transformation into a vampire, and the discovery of ancient secrets that shake the foundations of vampirekind. Also, he’s a rockstar in the 1980s. Yes, really.
While the show will no doubt make adjustments to fit its established timeline, two things remain constant:
- Interview with the Vampire never plays it safe.
- The love story between Louis and Lestat remains its heart — no matter how chaotic, complicated, or insane.
New Characters Fans Are Dying to Meet
This season brings several major additions to the cast, and fans of the books know just how pivotal (and emotionally loaded) these new characters are.
- Gabrielle de Lioncourt is Lestat’s mother. She is cold, intelligent, fiercely independent, and absolutely essential to understanding why Lestat is the way he is.
- Marius de Romanus, an ancient vampire and Armand’s maker, becomes a mentor figure to Lestat. His presence signals a deeper dive into vampire history, and possibly the larger Immortal Universe.
- Magnus is the terrifying vampire who turned Lestat. He is a brief, haunting presence in the books whose impact on Lestat’s psyche is irreversible. (He’s already been mentioned several times in the series, particularly in Season 1, Episode 6 and Season 2, Episode 8.)
- Those Who Must Be Kept, also known as Akasha and Enkil, are ancient, godlike vampires introduced cryptically in previous episodes. Akasha — the Queen of the Damned herself — is likely to be a looming threat this season, and possibly the central antagonist of Season 4. (Yes, we’re already manifesting it.)
First Look: Rockstars and Goblets
At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, AMC debuted a teaser for Season 3 featuring one of Lestat’s original songs — part of an in-universe rock album composed by Daniel Hart and sung by Sam Reid. (Rolin Jones confirmed at the ATX TV Festival on May 30, 2025, that the full 16-song album has been completed.)
While no additional footage has been released yet, now that filming is underway, fans can likely expect more glimpses — and maybe another teaser — at SDCC 2025, or in the early fall.
When Will It Air?
There’s no official premiere date yet. If the production timeline matches previous seasons, a May 2026 release seems likely, but until we see a trailer, that’s just speculation.
Why Fans Should Be Excited
The first two seasons of Interview with the Vampire weren’t just good adaptations. They were bold, heartbreaking, and genre-defying. The performances, the visuals, and the writing all elevated the material into something unforgettable.
And Season 3? It’s Lestat unleashed. The stage is set for vampires, betrayals, the greatest love story ever told on the screen, ancient powers — and yes, an undead man in leather pants fronting a rock band.
The future of the Immortal Universe depends on the groundwork being laid now. And this season looks ready to go big, go strange, and go deep.
