During their ride along, the duo find themselves thrust into a situation involving James’ hunt for an arms dealer.

The second film, Ride Along 2, was released in 2016, and followed the story of the pair traveling to Miami on a trip. While there, they investigate a drug smuggling ring, and team up with local detectives on the case. Both films were directed by Story, with the first written by Greg Coolidge, Jason Mantzoukas, Phil Hay, and Matt Manfredi. The second film was written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.
