‘Scream 7’ – Skeet Ulrich On Why He Will Not Return

As Kevin Williamson’s Scream 7 fast approaches from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group, we’ve learned of various returning cast members. That includes Matthew Lillard as Stu, who we last saw looking pretty dead with a TV smashed over his head. One name missing from the list though is original Scream star, Skeet Ulrich. Yet there was a time when the actor was supposed to be a part of the upcoming slasher.

While speaking with the New York Post, Ulrich commented, “I’m not involved,” referring to Scream 7. “I’m really excited though. I’m excited for Kevin Williamson to take the helm and to see what the mastermind of it all comes up with. I have no clue.”

Ulrich went on to add, “I used to know because part of coming back for five and six was being a part of seven. It was a three-picture arc for Billy Loomis, or the imagination of Billy Loomis in Melissa Barrera‘s character’s head. But when all that went down with her, obviously you lose her and you lose what’s in her head.”

We all know the unfortunate story by now. Two years ago, after posting support for the Palestinian people over the Israel-Hamas war, Spyglass deemed the posts “antisemitic” and fired Barrera from the film. Jenna Ortega, who played Barrera’s sister in the last two Scream films, dropped out of Scream 7 following the news. What was originally intended for Scream 7 fell apart. And then writer/creator Kevin Williamson was brought on board for a new premise once again starring Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott.

It makes some sense that Ulrich wouldn’t be involved in the new version. After all, it’s quite clear that his character of Billy is long dead. He came back as the ghostly father of Barrera’s character, a psychological dark presence. With her now gone, it seems Ulrich is, as well.

“But, you know, it’s horror,” Ulrich told the Post. “And I think the great thing about Scream in general was it was all based in reality that this could happen. You don’t know who as you’re walking down the street could be a killer or not. So I hope if it does, it doesn’t get so far fetched that it blows that premise.”

Ulrich may not be in the next Scream film, but you can currently watch him in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, now playing in theaters.

And don’t miss Scream 7 when it slices into theaters on February 26, 2026.
