Curry Barker‘s surprise $400M global grossing romance horror Obsession has set a streaming date on Peacock of July 17. That’s a 63-day theatrical window to streaming.
Focus Features, as we told you, acquired North American and certain foreign on the movie out of TIFF Midnight for $15M+. Obsession tells the tale about a guy, Bear (Michael Johnston), who wishes that the love of his life, Nikki (Inde Navarette) loves him back. However, chaos ensues.
Obsession opened to $17.1M stateside in mid-May and legged out to an unprecedented 14.6x multiple to a current $249.5M domestic off a rare A- for a horror movie. Co-produced by Blumhouse and financed originally by Capstone for $750K. The movie remains in the top 5 making $9.4M in its eighth week.
YouTube-made filmmaker, Barker, has his next movie, Anything But Ghosts, with Focus Features and Blumhouse. He also has a third secret project in the work with Blumhouse in addition to re-launching Texas Chainsaw Massacre with A24.
