The competition in Battle on the Beach Season 5 so far has been anything but a relaxing day by the ocean.
The HGTV competition series returned for its fifth outing on June 1, despite reports that the show had been canceled after Season 4. Set in South Carolina’s Grand Strand, the new episodes follow three teams as they transform run-down beachside properties into stunning vacation homes. The team with the highest short-term rental rate will take home bragging rights and a minimum cash prize of $50,000. Additionally, each week’s winning team must choose between accepting $3,000 or adding $6,000 to the grand prize.
Ty Pennington returned as a mentor for the new season, alongside 100 Day Dream Home‘s Mika Kleinschmidt and Renovation Island‘s Sarah Baeumler, the latter of whom previously served as a judge on Battle on the Beach. The new cast additions also include Renovation Aloha‘s Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama as judges.
The contestants faced a fun challenge during Episode 6, which aired on Monday, July 7, having to convert their homes’ last remaining bedroom into a multi-purpose bonus room. “This week’s challenge is about creating a memorable space that will have potential visitors clicking ‘book now,’” read a note sent to the teams. “Figure out what design and amenities are missing in your home that will set it apart from the competition.”
The groups showed off their design creativity, transforming their spaces into a game room, kids’ playroom, and home gym.
